Core Issue

While the business concept and core features were already established, the team had rough wireframes to work from. The user experience was not clean and caused confusion for users. There were many features presented across the platform that proved overwhelming to understand. The visual direction was also unimpressive and non-accessible.

My Role

As the product designer on the team, I incorporated the company branding to define a clean and striking visual direction for the platform. I then incorporated the new visual direction in a full redesign of the platform. I also conducted a UX evaluation of the previous version and made UX improvements to create a friendly and easy to understand experience.

Goals

Utilize the company branding (making adjustments as needed) to elevate the visual design

Redesign the platform

Clean up the user experience to make the platform easy to use and understandable

Challenges

Defining a process for scheduling and managing meetings that was outside users’ mental models

Conveying all features to users in a way that provided visibility but was not overwhelming

Adhering to accessibility guidelines with the existing branding

Solution

Take a dark mode approach that would allow the use of lighter yellow and blue colors while maintaining accessibility guidelines

Reorganizing the control panels to focus on user needs and establish a hierarchy on the page

Create a clear, step-wise onboarding that guides users through setup

Redesign the platform to follow new visual direction and maintain consistency

Final Designs

Final deliverables included high fidelity designs and functional prototype for onboarding, the dashboard experience, and the conferencing experience. A component library and any additional branding assets created were also included.

Conclusion

I redesigned a collaboration platform with a new visual direction and made user experience improvements to create a seamless and clear experience for users. I was the sole designer and worked with two stakeholders on the project.

Next steps is to hand over deliverables to developers to build out the platform. From there, the team can test a Beta version and make improvements as they iterate on this version.
